THE DJEMBE WITH INZA DIABATE
• DVD PAL 56 minutes
• Booklet 24 page
• Français / Anglais / Allemand
Born in 1954, in Burkina Faso, Inza Diabae is a griot, a bearer of the African Oral Tradition. Today, the social position of the griot is different, and Inza defends his cultural identity and claims it with his Djembe. Both modern and traditional, Inza's personal style of drumming demonstrates his continual research into the Djembe and proves that it is a fully fledged musical instrument.
• A DVD teaching method
"From the movement to the ear... from the ear to the movement", this tutorial covers 6 polyrhythms. (2 djembe parts - one Dunun part). The clearly explained traditional rhythms will help you to play your Djembe alone or with other musicians.
• A Documentary film - Djeli.
This film takes us into the Mandingue culture, in Burkina Faso (West Africa) where many Djembefolas have lived and worked throughout history and continue to do so today. There, Inza Dabate tells us of the history of West African drumming and shows us how a Djembe is carefully crafted, from the choice of the right material to the tuning of the skin as well as tips on preserving the instrument over time.
• A booklet - 24 page
Designed to complete the method, the booklet presents the scores of the patterns described in the video:
- 6 polyrhythms transcribed into rhythmic solfeggi.
The booklet includes technical tips on positions and a detailed description of the correct attachment and tuning of the skin.
